School Friend #188 is an anthology featuring three stories: "Secret Member of the Silent Three" follows Betty Roland, Joan Derwent, and Peggy West as members of a secret school society investigating a mystery involving an ancient amulet and a beacon, ultimately leading them to a secret cave where they discover a hidden hoard of wreckers' treasure. "Carlo and the Circus Challenge" depicts a circus acrobat named Carlo being challenged to an acrobatic contest by Mimi, with the confrontation advertised as the "Challenge Contest" at the circus's big top. "Lonely Boy of Lonely Isle" by Hazel Armitage tells of Lynne Benson, who stays with Professor Stanforth on a Scottish island, becoming suspicious of the professor's assistant Rolfe Fanshaw and his schemes involving her friend Laurie. "Nina—The News Reel Girl" by Jane Preston features photographer Nina on an assignment at sea, where she becomes involved in a lifeboat rescue operation during a ship crisis, requiring her to use rope ladders and her courage to help save lives.
