When a young warrior named Long Bow undertakes a sacred vision quest to find his totem—the spirit animal that will guide him through manhood—he faces far more than the forest's natural trials. As he hunts in unfamiliar territory, his rival Foxfoot schemes to sabotage his success, but their petty conflict draws the attention of a far deadlier threat: Trotting Buffalo and his Arapahoe warriors, who see an opportunity to capture slaves for their tribe. With his father searching the forest and enemies closing in, Long Bow must discover whether the strength he seeks in the spirit world will be enough to survive the very real dangers that surround him.
