In "The One-Way Trail," Jungle Jim is summoned by the District Commissioner to investigate the disappearance of four government surveyors sent to explore a jungle route for a new road connecting Kota Bharu with a new military base. Upon entering the jungle with his companion Kolu, Jim discovers an ancient Portuguese temple and encounters Tuan Sakai, a villainous figure with a handlebar mustache who has enslaved natives to work old Portuguese gold mines. Sakai reveals he orchestrated the story about building a road to enslave the natives and control the gold mines, and he holds Jim and the surveying team captive. Jim and his allies must overcome Sakai's forces to escape and expose his scheme.
