Joe Palooka Comics #1 (1945)

Joe Palooka tells the story of how he became the heavyweight boxing champion of the world. After a chance encounter with a man named Knobby Walsh, Joe is brought to a hotel where Walsh tells him they will make millions together. Joe's mother initially objects to his fighting, but eventually accepts it. The story includes Joe's account to soldiers of how he won the championship, describing a fight against a mob leader's boxer that he won by accident when he couldn't defeat a two-cent fighter, making him the only fighter the mob leader would trust.
