Tommy Takes Over
8 pp · humor; anthropomorphic-funny animals; teen

When Tommy agrees to run the Kitty Kola soda fountain for a few hours, the gang sees their chance to have some fun at his expense—ordering ridiculous sundaes and watching the inexperienced jerk fumble the job. But Tommy's chaotic ice-cream-flinging attempts to prove himself quickly spiral into a sticky situation involving an unsuspecting customer, Officer O'Rooney, and a Sergeant who keeps getting caught in the crossfire.

The Real Lowdown on Little Bo-Peep
9 pp · humor
Corn Off the Cob
7 pp · humor; anthropomorphic-funny animals; teen

Mr. Square takes a stab at playing music after hearing about Spike Jones and his corn jazz, but when the local hepcat characters discover he's been spinning corn records on his phonograph, they recruit the smooth Tommy Horsey to teach him the finer points of jive. What starts as a lesson in musical taste turns into a hilarious clash of styles when Square tries to put his newfound "sophistication" into practice.

A Bird in the Clock Is Worth Two in the Bush!
7 pp · humor

A cuckoo bird trapped in a clock grows tired of his monotonous duty—cooing out the hours—and dreams of joining the free birds outside, so he escapes to make his fortune as a singer. When the real birds reject him for his mechanical ways, and his hour-counting habit keeps sabotaging every opportunity, he learns that his seemingly thankless job was actually more rewarding than he ever realized. Through a tale told to reluctant Robert, this humorous story shows how sometimes the work we think we're tired of is exactly what we're meant to be doing.

Heppity's Big Case
7 pp · humor; anthropomorphic-funny animals; teen

Heppity fancies himself a hard-boiled detective after listening to too many radio mysteries, so when a bottle of orange juice vanishes from the Kitty-Kola soda fountain, he takes charge of the investigation with characteristic overconfidence. As he interrogates the dancing crowd and tangles with the wisecracking Owl Jolson, Heppity must use all his amateur sleuthing skills to track down the real culprit before the trail goes cold.
