"A True Story of our Forests" featuring Smokey the Bear recounts historical causes of forest fires, from lightning and Native American fires to camp fires left by railroad workers near the town of Peshtigo. The narrative follows a catastrophic forest fire that ravaged the area, destroying trees and grass across the hills, while explaining how watersheds are damaged when forests burn and explaining that the fire near Peshtigo was so intense it seemed to "explode into flame" with the wind creating a roaring furnace that threatened the town's 2,000 inhabitants.
