Davy Crockett #1 (1956)
Free to read · restored edition by comicbooks.com
This issue contains two stories. "The Fight on Gideon's Creek" follows Davy Crockett during the winter of 1800 as he discovers broken traps in his trapline and tracks thieves to their camp, where he encounters three men and a frozen boy. After careful trailing, Davy discovers the thieves are actually Iroquois braves, and when a Creek war party attacks, a hundred Iroquois braves come to Davy's aid, leading him to be called "the Planter" by the Indians who respect his wisdom about encouraging crops over hunting. "Big Bow and Little Arrow: The Paper Picker" is a humorous backup story in which a city man named Paleface gets caught between Big Bow and Little Arrow, ultimately ending in a corn-eating contest where neither competitor can finish even one kernel of the ten provided.
