Crime Does Not Pay #53 (1947)

Sergeant Pat Walsh, a decorated police officer, is tragically shot and killed by his wife after stopping at a candy store, where he is steered into a trap by criminals who use his wife to lure him to his death. The story follows the criminals' subsequent attempts to escape, including a drive into the country, but emphasizes the ultimate failure of their crime. A second story depicts a gambling scheme involving a character named Snike who uses an accomplice to manipulate baseball games through a "lucky" drink ritual, which eventually leads to his arrest when his cheating is exposed at a ballpark.
