This anthology contains three true crime stories. The first story features two former Eastern Penitentiary inmates, David Reagan and Francis Boyd, who attempt to rob blind war veterans and plan to flee to Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, but are pursued by police and caught. "On the Level" by C.H. Moore presents historical and cautionary facts, including Samuel Colt's invention of the revolver, a U.S. Army sound weapon discovery, legal consequences for various crimes, and the importance of law study and safety. "Plague of Paris" recounts how a criminal in Paris murdered wantonly, measuring human life by a yardstick of coin to satisfy his greed-driven compulsion, leading authorities to investigate the criminal mind and its motivations.
