The Mighty Hunter
7 pp · humor

In a humorous twist on Eskimo tradition, a group of boys, including Jo, set out to prove themselves as "Mighty Hunters" by capturing a polar bear—only to discover they’ve actually tamed a mother bear and her cubs, leading to an unexpected and comical reversal of roles when the camp calls them "little mothers" for their care. The story follows their misadventures as they navigate the absurdity of their "victory," from mistaken tracks to being chased by the very bear they claimed to have captured.

Vacation Guest
8 pp · animal

When a visiting old sailor takes a fancy to young Junior at the family's lake cabin, Bo the dog finds himself caught between a well-meaning but talkative guest and concerned parents worried about the colorful tales being spun. As the Skipper regales Junior with swashbuckling yarns of life at sea, Bo attempts increasingly creative schemes to interrupt the storytelling—only to watch his efforts backfire when Junior becomes so enchanted by the old sailor's adventures that he starts adopting his colorful seafaring vocabulary. By the time the family decides to pack up and head home, it's clear that some vacation guests leave more of an impression than others.
