# Ally Sloper's Half Holiday #1736 This anthology issue contains several stories and comic sketches. "The Splendid Pauper" features Slofer's two tank carmen being employed by the local Council's Water Department to transport water via Russell Square in the East End, with humorous misadventures along the way. "The Head Waiter" recounts an American customer's confrontation with a head waiter at a restaurant over the preparation of a simple joint. The issue also includes "How Great Men Get There—Mr. Justice Darling," a biographical sketch of Sir Charles John Darling's rise from birth in 1846 to becoming a Judge of the King's Bench Division, along with numerous other comic sketches and verses such as "Dots and Dashes," "Different Ways," and "When the Boot Is on the Other Foot."
