Young X-Men #1
This collection kicks off the 2008 Young X-Men series, following a new team of trainees assembled by Cyclops in the wake of the Messiah Complex event. The story, titled 'Final Genesis,' sees the young mutants facing off against a new Brotherhood of Mutants led by Donald Pierce, testing their loyalties and abilities as they grapple with the legacy of the original New Mutants.
"Final Genesis" kicks off Young X-Men #1 with a sharp, mysterious edge as Ink delivers Blindfold and Dani Moonstar to a figure whose striking hairstyle hints at a dangerous legacy. The tension escalates when Wolf Cub, Dust, and Rockslide face off against Magma, emerging victorious but scarred—literally and emotionally—when Dust is turned to glass and Wolf Cub bears a painful burn. Meanwhile, a jailbreak in a quiet moment reveals two men, Carlos and Julio, whose matching tattoos and latent powers suggest a deeper, hidden network. Marc Guggenheim’s writing, vividly illustrated by Yanick Paquette and brought to life with dynamic inks by Ray Snyder and Kris Justice, sets a gripping tone, while Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson deliver a striking cover that captures the issue’s eerie atmosphere.

Ink delivers Blindfold and Dani Moonstar to a shadowy figure whose hair is done like a member of the Hellfire Club. Wolf Cub, Dust and Rockslide go up against Magma and win but at the cost of Dust being turned to glass and a bad burn on Wolf Cub's hand. Wolf Cub is disturbed by his willingness to kill, but Cyclops tells him to think about ensuring the survival of the mutant species. A man named Carlos breaks a man named Julio out of jail- both have tattoos siilar to Ink's, and Carlos at least has the powers to go with them.
