“Let Your Hair Down!”

In "Let Your Hair Down!" from Young Love #32 (1954), artist Bill Draut captures a raw, tense journey as Fay flees her steel-town roots with Dan, a man who’s both her escape and her reckoning. What starts as a clash of nerves and a slap turns into an uneasy alliance—and then something deeper—when a violent encounter at a truck stop forces them to run together. As their pasts close in, their bond proves stronger than the fear of being torn apart. Cover by Bill Draut.

Fay is escaping the steel town where she grew up when she hitches a lift to 'Frisco at 2am with Dan, just the type of man she's escaping. After an attempted kiss and a slap in the face, the pair come to an understanding. Then, at a truck stop, Fay tries to ditch Dan and ends up killing another driver who fights Dan and tries to kiss Fay. Dan and Fay go on the run together and fall in love. By the time their past catches up with them, they don't want to be separated. Fortunately, the other driver is not dead and withdraws his charges for assault.
