This anthology issue contains two detective stories. "Phantom Thief" by Al Huston follows Private Detective Greg Mason as he protects Mrs. Hazel Van Norton's jeweled pendant during a high-society gala; when the pendant is stolen, Mason deduces that a guest named Walter Powell staged the theft to cover his own criminal involvement, exposing Powell's scheme through clever detective work. The second story, "Eyewitness," presents a first-person account from a photographer documenting a gang shootout on the West Side, where he reflects on giving a young rookie cop a chance to prove himself during a dangerous fire escape pursuit.
