A young boy named Billy breaks news to his friend Ted about an opportunity to become a Grit salesman, exciting Ted with prospects of earning money by selling copies of Grit, America's Greatest Family Newspaper, at fifteen cents per copy with a five-cent commission per sale. Billy receives a Grit starter kit with sales materials and instructions, then successfully demonstrates the sales approach by approaching a busy businessman named Mr. Green and securing him as a regular subscriber. Billy explains the simple business model where salesmen collect fifteen cents from customers, keep five cents profit, and send ten cents to Grit, with no upfront payment required for papers until after they are sold.
