About this Collection

This collection brings together a selection of Garry Trudeau's Doonesbury comic strips from the early 1980s, focusing on the character Sid and his memorable, often awkward, business and social interactions. The volume captures Trudeau's sharp satire of corporate culture and personal relationships during that era, featuring the regular cast of the long-running strip. It was published by Holt, Rinehart and Winston in 1983 as part of their series of Doonesbury book collections.

In this 1983 collection of Doonesbury strips, G. B. Trudeau delivers a sharp, character-driven snapshot of a moment in time: Roland Hedley reports from Lebanon amid political turmoil, while Joanie and Rick face the uncertain joy of impending fatherhood. From Zonker’s panic over college to Uncle Duke and Alice’s wild pitch for a De Lorean film, and a quiet moment of connection at the Bay Area Gay Alliance, the book captures lives in flux—culminating in the tender, wordless arrival of Jeff, just off the page. Art by Trudeau, with inks by Don Carlton, and a cover by the duo, this remains a standout in the series’ long-running chronicle.
