The four-issue series was announced in December 2023 and written by Steve Foxe — who had previously collaborated with artist Salva Espín on X-Men '92: House of XCII — with Espín returning on interiors and Matt Milla on colors throughout. Marvel described the project as built in close collaboration with showrunner Beau DeMayo and the X-Men '97 production team, who provided the creative runway for Foxe and Espín to craft an original story feeding directly into the Disney+ season. Jordan White edited the final issue, with Todd Nauck providing the standard cover and Skottie Young and Mico Suayan among the variant cover artists; the book arrived in comic shops on June 26, 2024, roughly six weeks after Season 1 of the animated series completed its run on Disney+.
