Wyatt Earp, Frontier Marshal #43

Wyatt Earp is found guilty of murder by a jury and sentenced to life imprisonment, but he maintains his innocence and claims the verdict was a terrible mistake. After losing good men in pursuit of the outlaw Black Lance, Earp mounts a horse with a month's rations and leaves the fort at sundown to track down Black Lance himself. Three nights later near the mountains, Earp encounters Black Lance's tribe, who warn him that Black Lance awaits him on Medicine Peak where he will die. Word spreads that Earp has escaped, and his associates celebrate his apparent freedom, toasting to his name while making plans to support him at his trial.
