Soviet agents successfully detonate an atomic bomb in Manhattan, devastating the midtown area and destroying much of the city. American military forces respond by drafting a surrender demand on the President of the United States, but Soviet forces continue their advance through Europe, using new atomic weapons against NATO positions and American forces. American soldiers attempt to mount a defense with experimental weapons including atomic bazookas and anti-personnel mines, but are overwhelmed as Soviet forces push through mountain passes and advance rapidly across the continent.

When Soviet forces surge through the German passes during World War III, an American infantry company makes a desperate stand at the experimental weapons station in Vergardt Valley—buying precious time for Professor Alan Newcastle to complete and launch his revolutionary super-atomic guided missile. With the Red Army pressing hard and casualties mounting, the defenders must hold the line for just minutes more while the Professor fights to finish the calculations that could change the course of the war. Captain Craig rallies his men against impossible odds, even as some begin to crack under the relentless assault.
