Wolverine: Revenge - Red Band #2

History

Jonathan Hickman and Greg Capullo announced the collaboration in May 2024 via Polygon; both creators and editor Tom Brevoort publicly framed the story as set a couple of years into a near-future timeline, separate from the main Marvel Universe, giving them latitude to inflict permanent consequences on the cast. Capullo had spent the year prior to the series producing Marvel cover work — this miniseries represented his return to interior pages at the publisher after a lengthy absence largely associated with his landmark Batman run at DC. The Red Band edition format itself was modeled on Marvel's Blood Hunt event series, which had popularized the polybagged, explicit-content companion-edition approach immediately before Wolverine: Revenge launched in August 2024; issue #2 of the Red Band edition shipped September 25, 2024, edited by Mark Basso with Tom Brevoort serving as Executive Editor.

• The Red Band edition is a polybagged, Explicit Content–rated companion to the standard Wolverine: Revenge #2, containing exclusive pages and more graphic violence not present in the standard edition — it is not a reprint but an expanded cut.
• Within the alternate-future setting (designated Earth-47301 in the Marvel Database), this issue marks the first appearances of Danielle Moonstar and Forge in that continuity, as well as the first (posthumous) appearance of Magneto's remains.
• Mastermind (Jason Wyngarde) is killed by Wolverine in this issue — Logan uses a repaired version of Magneto's helmet to resist Mastermind's illusions, then decapitates him so Forge can extract memories from his brain to locate the remaining targets.
• The issue also features the Demon Bears in their first appearance within the Earth-47301 continuity, and Colossus, Omega Red, and Deadpool appear only as video/static-screen references — placing them as upcoming targets on Logan's list.
• Greg Capullo's work on this series constituted his first Marvel interior artwork in years, following a period of exclusive cover contributions; Wolverine: Revenge was framed as a celebration of both Wolverine's 50th anniversary and Capullo's return to the publisher.
• The entire five-issue Red Band run was later reprinted in a separate 'Red Band Raw: Black & White Edition' (2025) presenting Capullo's original pencils without color, polybagged and lettered for readability.
