Wolverine #13
In "Blood Ties," Wolverine confronts a mysterious new Ba'al who's assembling the fragments of the Gehenna Stone—a relic said to hold the soul of an ancient evil. Written by Peter David and brought to life with dynamic art by John Buscema, inks by Bill Sienkiewicz, and colors by Glynis Oliver, this 1989 issue deepens the mythos with a chilling tale of legacy and retribution. The cover, by Kevin Nowlan, captures the intensity of the clash as Ba'al takes flight with his prize.

Burt tells his companions that the Gehenna Stone was the receptacle for the 'soul' of Ba'al, placed there by his evil acolytes after The Hand of God defeated him in ancient times. Ba'al's vanquisher shattered the stone and threw the pieces to the four corners of the Earth. A new Ba'al, supposedly the original's descendant, has been gathering them together a little at a time. Wolverine tangles with this new Ba'al and gets beaten. Accompanied by his followers Ba'al flies off with the Gehenna shard. In Madripoor, O'Donnell gets one of the Gehenna shards.
