☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeVolume 19 of Will Eisner's The Spirit Archives collects the final six months of the original Spirit newspaper section, from July 3 to December 25, 1949. This volume features classic adventures with The Spirit (Denny Colt), Commissioner Dolan, Ellen Dolan, Ebony White, and a host of supporting characters including Silk Satin, Mr. Carrion, and Hazel P. MacBeth, as Eisner's groundbreaking storytelling and visual style continued to define the medium.
In "Ye Olde Spirit of '76," Will Eisner’s The Spirit Archives #19 delivers a sharp, satirical twist on civic power in Central City, where Mayor Dolan’s authority is undercut by Monica Veto’s grip on the City Council—until Charlie Whitecloud’s unexpected ownership throws the whole system into question. Written by Jules Feiffer and illustrated with Eisner’s signature precision, the issue blends political intrigue with the series’ enduring noir flair, all rendered in bold inks and subtle colors by Jamison. The cover, a striking collaboration by Eisner in pencils and inks, captures the era’s theatrical tension.
