A cavalry officer named Don King is accused of being responsible for a massacre of soldiers in Tennessee that killed his superior officer's father and comrades. Though Don claims self-defense and that he was following orders, he faces a military trial where witnesses testify against him. Don attempts to escape the charges and prove his innocence while being pursued, ultimately leading to a confrontation where a posse chases the fugitive until he manages to elude them with the help of a horse.

In the pre-Civil War frontier, the scouts successfully hunt down the cruel chieftain Mountain Cat—but his young son, a boy named Red Wing, swears vengeance and bides his time with calculated patience. Years later, Red Wing enlists in the U.S. Cavalry under an assumed name, earns rank and decorations through the war, and returns to his posting as a sergeant—all while secretly orchestrating a coordinated assault on the very soldiers he serves alongside. Now positioned as the perfect informant, Red Wing sets in motion a treacherous plan that threatens to turn the Army's own frontier operations into a bloodbath.
