This anthology issue contains two Western stories. "Neighbors" depicts a conflict during June 1859 in Texas when reservation Indians north of the Red River raid settlements, prompting a governor to order cavalry escort troops to round up all reservation Indians, though a sympathetic officer named Neighbors attempts to broker peace between the settlers and Indians seeking to move north. In "Bullets and Words," a man named Jeff Ward, known for matching bullets with words, is sent to Withers, Texas, where he faces off against a criminal element while his mother works in a laundry.
