"The Corpse Talks Back" follows merchant seaman Harry Hogan, who is plagued by guilt after a poker game on the Hudson River in which he witnesses fellow player Mike Fleming cheat and win. When Hogan accuses Fleming of using a concealed card, Fleming yanks away his arm, causing Hogan to fall and hit his head fatally. Years later, Hogan is executed for the murder, but his guilty conscience manifests as a supernatural voice calling to him even in death, tormenting him with the knowledge of his crime. The story concludes with Hogan's tormented spirit unable to escape the consequences of his actions, even beyond the grave. A second story, "The Siamese Twin," involves twin brothers Lloyd and Tom Phelan, whose inseparable bond leads Tom to commit murder; Lloyd then executes Tom as a judge and executioner, only to be haunted by his own complicity in the crime through their shared blood.
