In 1937’s Weekly Supplement [Book-Comics] #11, Will Eisner crafts a taut desert thriller as businessman J.M. Thornick’s rare herb shipment is threatened by bandit Ben Ali, twenty-five miles from Morrocco. The Brothers 3—Smith, and two unnamed allies—step in with a daring plan that sends Smith flying off with the captured bandit, drawing his men away from the true route. As the caravan races toward safety, the trio holds off the pursuing Arabs, their actions turning the tide in a story drawn with the crisp, dynamic style that defined Eisner’s early work.
