Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeWeb of Venomverse: Fresh Brains #1 serves as the official Venomverse-side prelude to the Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse crossover event, functioning as a direct counterpart to Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood #1 and establishing the Multiversal Symbiote Hive Mind — a new sentient cosmic entity at the center of the Venomverse — as a major concept in Marvel's symbiote mythology. The issue introduces multiple brand-new symbiote characters across its anthology format, including Venomouse, Venomizer (a Katie Power variant bonded to a symbiote), an alternate Eddie Brock Venom, and Phlegm, all debuting here for the first time in Marvel continuity. It also marks the first comics writing credit for actor David Dastmalchian at Marvel, making it a notable creative milestone. As the anthology that populates the Venomverse army ahead of a five-issue multiverse war, the issue holds a firm place in the growing canon of symbiote multiversal storytelling.

The issue was conceived as one half of a two-pronged anthology launch — alongside Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood #1 — designed to seed characters and concepts for the five-issue Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse limited series written by Mat Groom and Kyle Higgins with art by Luciano Vecchio. Marvel editor Jordan White shepherded the project, and writer Mat Groom noted that a key creative decision was having Luciano Vecchio design all characters across both lead-in titles, unifying the visual language of the event from the start. The issue deploys a rotating anthology format with five distinct creative teams, allowing writers of varying backgrounds — including TV and film actor-writer David Dastmalchian in his Marvel comics debut — to each contribute a short story spotlighting a different Venomverse candidate.
