This issue contains two stories. The first story follows a woman named Cynthia who realizes she is in love with Mike after reading his fiancée's letter; she confesses her feelings to Mike's family, but Mike's mother and aunt convince her that she cannot be with Mike because he is engaged, and Cynthia must accept that their happiness together is impossible. The second story, titled "That 'Dear John' Letter," follows a soldier named Roy Martin who falls in love with a nurse named Louise while recovering from an operation at an Army hospital; when Louise breaks up with Roy via letter, he falls into despair and nearly makes a false start with another woman named Janie, but ultimately realizes his feelings for Louise were mistaken and decides to return to his unit.

When Mike ships overseas, Cynthia realizes the gap between them may be wider than love alone can bridge, especially after their baby is born and she confronts who he really is.

The Boy Next Door

A small-town girl torn between the steady boy next door and a charming Army captain realizes her romantic ambitions may have come too late when Jack's fiancée arrives in town. That "Dear John" Letter …

A nurse's aide at an army hospital falls for Roy Martin, a wounded soldier recovering from eye surgery, while he remains engaged to a girl back home—but when circumstances shift and the aide finds herself in Roy's hometown during his furlough, she must reckon with the consequences of her unspoken feelings and the ghost of his absent fiancée. Set in 1952, this wartime romance explores the collision between longing and deception, as a second chance at happiness becomes complicated by the truth she's been hiding.

Career Wife
8 pp · Romance, War

A soldier's wife tries to balance her career ambitions with her marriage when her husband Allan is recalled to active duty, but her determination to maintain her independence—and her growing closeness with a charming textile businessman named Fred—threatens to unravel everything she holds dear. As Jane pursues both her job and her social obligations, she discovers that some promises demand more than professional justification. "Career Wife" explores what happens when a woman refuses to bend, even as the people she loves most begin to break.
