Dejah wanders the remote arctic region of Barsoom. She is attacked by an apt but one of the legendary yellow men of the region comes to her rescue. Her respite is short lived, however, when Kaor chains her up in his house to serve as his slave. He takes her personal flier harness and tries to use it but it explodes as it is keyed to Dejah's psyche. She escapes into the Carrion Caves but finds herself caught between an angry Kaor and a pack of ravenous apts.
