"The Snarling Avenger" follows William E. Brown, whose dog Fletcher returns to his master's side and mysteriously kills a man named Keever, who had been stealing from Brown's club. When Brown later discovers Keever's body with evidence suggesting the murder weapon came from guns owned by the club, he and others connected to the establishment become suspects; the case grows more complex when a second dead body mysteriously reappears with the missing watch, proving it was a gift rather than stolen property. The issue also features "The Case of William Grant," an unsolved true-crime mystery presented as a reader contest asking subscribers to solve the baffling circumstances of Grant's death at a country club.
