“Letter to Santa”

In "Letter to Santa," Donald Duck faces a holiday dilemma when he realizes he forgot to send the nephews’ letter to Santa—just as Christmas Eve arrives and they reveal their wish for a steamshovel. With help from Uncle Scrooge, who’s less thrilled about being upstaged by Santa than he is about giving the gift, things take a turn when Scrooge buys his own steamshovel, leading to a chaotic showdown between the two in their machines. The issue, written and illustrated by the legendary Carl Barks with colors by Susan Daigle-Leach and lettering by Barks himself, features a cover by Walt Kelly and Carl Buettner, capturing the festive spirit of a 2003 Gemstone release.

Donald forgets to mail the nephews' letter to Santa Claus and discovers on Christmas Eve that they want a steamshovel. Donald gets the money for the steamshovel from Uncle Scrooge but Scrooge, upset because Santa and not he will get the credit for the gift, buys a steamshovel of his own to give to the nephews. He and Donald meet and fight in their steamshovels, wrecking them. Then they disguise Donald as Santa so that he can tell the nephews he's out of steamshovels.
