Voodoo #15
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains two main stories. "Hammer of Evil" features a woman who confesses to murdering her lover with a hammer, claiming she was forced to do so by voodoo powers; the authorities discover she used a luminous swamp mud to create severed heads that swung from trees, which were never actually punished for the crime. "Dead Man's Pajamas" tells of investigator John Foster who is given haunted pajamas that reveal the solution to murders—a murdered couple's ghost uses the pajamas to communicate how they were killed, leading Foster to expose the guilty parties who had evaded justice.
Tom Oykes, a reporter for the New York Star, arrives at Vulture Rock—a brutal penal island even darker than Devil's Island itself—hunting a story about the executioners who work there. When he learns of Marcel, a convict executioner with a gruesome hobby of collecting the heads of those he beheads in jars of alcohol, Oykes becomes fascinated by the tale of how the other prisoners turned his own obsession into an instrument of revenge. What begins as a chilling account of madness and macabre pride spirals into a nightmare of terror, deception, and poetic justice on an island where death is always the final answer.
A man accused of pushing his wife off a rooftop claims he was sleepwalking, but police detective John Foster suspects there's more to the case than a tragic accident—especially when the accused insists the striped pajamas his wife made him wear that night felt strangely wrong. Foster decides to spend the night in the dead man's apartment wearing the very same pajamas, only to experience the same nightmarish visions and compulsions that nearly send him over the ledge himself. What Foster uncovers in the police lab reveals a conspiracy far more calculated than anyone suspected, turning this apparent murder into something far more sinister.
