In a dusty frontier town where fear wears a mask, Kaptein Miki receives a threatening letter from the elusive Maskefjes. With Windy and Salasso at his side, Miki sets out to confront the outlaw—only to find the sheriff, Sheriffen, too terrified to act, and a deadly duel arranged in secret. When Maskefjes learns of the plan, he arrives first, revolver in hand, turning the tables on Miki in a tense standoff.

When the town turns on Kaptein Miki out of fear of Maskefjes, a desperate attempt on his life unfolds under cover of night. At the same time, Windy is taken by Maskefjes, who sees him as bait in a deadly game — with Fru Polly, Kit Barrow, and the others caught in the crossfire.

When Windy’s trail leads Kaptein Miki and Salasso to the isolated ranch of Mr. Harrison, a tense game of deception begins. Salasso dons a disguise as a traveling merchant, but Maskefjes—known to the locals as Tvillinger—sees through the ruse with unsettling ease.
