Vamps: Hollywood & Vein #4

Issue four of six in DC Vertigo's Vamps: Hollywood & Vein miniseries, written by Elaine Lee with art by William Simpson, delivers one of 1996's most unsettling underwater images — a vampire woman in blue leather, fangs bared and arm reaching desperately toward the surface, surrounded by circling sharks while a boat floats obliviously above. Phil Winslade's split above-and-below-water cover composition is genuinely striking, capturing both vulnerability and menace in a single breathless image.
