After a lovers' quarrel, a young woman runs away blindly and ends up in a garden she has been told about, seeing an old broken statue of a woman laying on the ground. When John finds her, she asks to hear the story about the girl who posed for it. During World War I, Ann posed for her lover David, who had been turned down when he tried to join the military. But his obsessive jealousy of soldiers became too much and one night she ran off - some saying she tripped and fell from the cliff top, others saying she threw herself over. David was left only with a statue of the girl he had loved.
