“Bye Bye Blues”

In "Bye Bye Blues," Miriam prepares for the return of Derek, her former flame now back from three years at sea. As she sifts through memories—old photos, diary entries, and the quiet ache of what once was—she reinvents herself with a new haircut and a fresh dress, hoping to reignite something lost. When he asks her out for old time’s sake, their reunion unfolds in a dozen dates, each one echoing the past, leaving her diary once more filled with declarations of love. Cover by Roy Newby, art and inks by Roy Newby, this 1961 IPC comic captures a tender, bittersweet moment in time.

Miriam learns that Derek is returning after being in the merchant navy for three years. She digs through her things to find an old photo of him and reads her diary entries as she reminisced about being in love with him. Things seemed to cool between them and neither seemed too upset when he had left. She decides to give herself a new hair-do and buy a new dress to show him what he's missed. When he returns, he asks her out for old time's sake. Twelve days later, they had gone out twelve times, all "just for old time's sake". Once again her diary entry claims they love each other.
