Polly met Simon while she was staying the weekend with her cousin. Later, she receives a letter from Simon saying he will be up her way on Friday and she gets her mum to allow him to stay with them. But when he arrives, she regrets it because her family and neighbors keep talking up Polly in a way that makes it look like she was out to trap him.
