Stranded without any money, Anne hitches a ride with a family travelling back to London. Shortly afterwards, the family also picks up Mike who abandons the family when they stop for the night. The next day Anne checks into a small hotel with five pounds lent to her by the family, but she overhears the clerk phoning the police about her.
