While visiting her cousin Lucy on holiday, she is introduced to Clark at the club. Clark, the pianist at the club, quits his job that night when he is asked to return to work instead of dancing with the customers. Clark tells her he wants write his own music, but Thelma tells him he's not very good. He admires her honesty and kisses her, but tells her he can't get serious until he's made his name. Thelma cuts her holiday short, but Clark catches her at the station and tells her he wants her to be with him.
