Valentine #26 February 1966
In "Much Too Much," Hilda’s desperate attempts to catch Ron’s attention—through makeup, a fishing outfit, and more—end in humiliation when he walks away. After a fall into the water and a change of clothes in a nearby cottage, she rides off on her scooter, stripped of all her usual adornments. When Ron sees her like this, the moment takes an unexpected turn. José González’s expressive art brings the emotional highs and lows of Hilda’s journey to life, capturing the quiet, poignant moments of a story that’s as much about self-worth as it is about romance.

Hilda uses all kinds of cosmetic aids to make herself more attractive, but she can't even get Ron to remember her name. She discovers he likes fishing so she buys a fishing outfit and a rod. But when she arrives and asks to sit next to him, he leaves. Blinded by rage, she falls in the water. She is given some old clothes in a nearby cottage and drives off on her scooter without a single beauty aid to help her. She hopes Ron doesn't see her like that, but he does.
