Valentine #21 March 1970
In "The Signal Is Love," Dolly confronts a reality that cracks when the café staff deny Larry’s existence—until he emerges, hiding from the 'daffy dolls' he’s evaded. As Larry leads her to an old barge with a dream of a floating discotheque, the promise of escape is shattered when he steals her money. Paul’s revelation that Larry preyed on women like his sister forces Dolly to reckon with her own illusions. A moody, dreamlike tale of deception and desire, drawn with striking expressiveness by Romero.

Dolly question reality when the café staff deny Larry works with them. Then he appears, having hidden from some 'daffy dolls'. Dolly realises the café staff were covering for Larry. She doesn't like what it suggests about her hero. Larry leads Dolly to an old barge and invites her to share his dream of a floating discotheque. When she offers fifty quid, he steals it. Paul catches Larry and tells Dolly his story: Larry had charmed and fleeced his sister, one of many used women. For Dolly, it is hard to get over Larry, but now she's got Paul.
