Valentine #21 January 1961
In "Goodness Gracious Me!", Pat’s quiet determination to save for a cherished grandfather clock—its chimes a link to happier days—draws the attention of her kind-hearted neighbor Steve. As winter sets in and their bond grows warmer, his small gesture of letting her share his fire becomes a quiet turning point. The story, drawn with tender detail by José González, captures a moment of quiet romance and longing, with a cover by Josep Maria Miralles that perfectly frames the warmth beneath the chill.

Pat doesn't turn on her gas fire so she can save money to buy a grandfather clock like the one she had at home that reminds her of happy times. Concerned about her sitting in the cold, the boy next door offers to take her out for a hot coffee. When he hears her story, he offers to let her come warm herself by his fire whenever she gets too cold. She goes to Steve's often after that and falls in love with him. When he stops seeing her, she at least is close to buying the clock. But when she gets to the shop, the clock has been sold. Steve has bought it for her as an engagement gift.
