Valentine #20 November 1971
"My Brother Luke" in Valentine #20 (November 1971, 0.04 GBP) is a quiet, poignant story drawn with tender precision by Juan Solé Puyal, who both pencils and inks. It follows Sally as she watches Bob drift through her life—unseen, unspoken—until his sudden departure reveals a quiet depth in his feelings, shared only through the memories of a man who knew him best. The moment she sees her reflection in a shop window, it’s not just her face she recognizes, but the quiet strength of a thousand unseen connections.

Sally sees Bob at the caff, but he never says anything romantic or takes her anywhere exciting. Then she learns that Bob is one of two thousand being laid off at the factory. He decides to go south like some of the other lads are doing. Only when Bob is gone does she meet an old man who worked next to Bob and discovers that Bob thought the world of her. As she sees her reflection in a shop window, she thinks she is just an ordinary girl in an ordinary town. But she no longer feels alone, as if there were millions of girls like her.
