Lucy and David had been in a stormy relationship with a row of some sort every night. Finally, they ran out of things to throw at each other and Lucy broke off with him. Now her new boyfriend has come over to read poetry to her, not realizing David is in the apartment. David manages to hide for a while as a distracted Lucy listens to Henry's poetry, but eventually David reveals himself. An indignant Henry walks out and Lucy she is glad to be rid of him, but is still mad at David. She throws a vase at him, but this time actually hits him and David interprets it as a proposal of marriage.
