A funicular railway car has come to a halt high in the mid-air somewhere in the Swiss mountains with four passengers, who think back over their past lives. For ten years, Mary had devoted herself to caring for her mother. Now she has the money and leisure to do as she pleased, but sees herself as a mousy old maid of twenty five. She met a man who stirred something in her and he asked her to join him on the funicular railway. When he didn't show, she went alone. Now a helicopter rescues them and Mary discovered that the man did care for her. The other passengers resolve to change their lives.
