“It's a Sin to Tell a Lie”

In "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie," a heartfelt tale from Valentine #14 (January 1961), Sheila finds herself caught in a web of well-intentioned deception when a struggling reporter, Keith, asks her to help him find a human interest story. With a little help from her imagination, she spins a tale of lost love and childhood romance—only to face the consequences when hundreds of men show up, drawn by the paper’s search for her long-lost David. Carlos Prunés delivers the story and cover in a striking, expressive style, capturing the quiet tension and emotional turns of a moment that blurs truth and fiction.

Sheila meets a reporter who is in danger of losing his job if he doesn't find a nice human interest story. She told him that she and David had been childhood sweethearts, but as she got older, men were crazy about her and David left. Keith spent the following days with her as his paper ran the series about her search for David. When two hundred men show up at the paper in response to the paper's search, Sheila has to admit that no boy ever looked at her twice and there was no David. The editor threatens to sue her, but Keith suggests a follow-up story where the girl marries the reporter.
