Valentine #13 June 1970
In "A Reason for Leaving," Bob finds himself on a blind date with Shirley, a woman whose polished charm quickly wears thin as he grows weary of her pretensions. When he opts for honesty over pretense—choosing a quiet walk home instead of dancing—he’s surprised by a genuine connection that unfolds in a moment of unexpected warmth. The twist comes not in the romance, but in the revelation of who’s really beside him, leading to a quietly joyful resolution. Illustrated with crisp, expressive lines by Jorge Badía Romero, this 1970 Valentine issue captures a tender, character-driven moment with a touch of playful surprise.

Bob agrees to keep the blind date Mike has set up. She insists on an expensive meal, show and dancing. While Shirley is nice, Bob gets tired of the phoney sophistication. He says no to dancing and walks her home instead. When he kisses her, she asks for another and says she appreciates a genuine guy. Bob then discovers he's not with the girl he thought—it's her flatmate, also called Shirley. The pair find Mike and the other Shirley together, and go off happily together.
