Penny's teacher wants her to stay on for another year and try for a scholarship to training college and her stepmother wants her to get a job to bring another pay packet home. But what Penny really enjoys is music. After losing yet another job, Penny's stepmother hits her. Penny decides to use all her money to go to London and see if Pete Dexter can help her get started with a singing career.
