“The Lady Is a Square”

In "The Lady Is a Square," Sally finds herself unexpectedly thrust into the role of secretary for the American partner’s son during his visit to Anglo-American Airways. What begins as a frustrating assignment—where she’s treated like an afterthought and forced to wear increasingly unflattering outfits—unfolds into a quietly subversive experiment in perception. Carlos Freixas’ expressive artwork brings the story’s subtle social dynamics to life, capturing both the tension and the unexpected warmth beneath the surface.

In an Anglo-American Airways company, Sally is asked to serve as secretary for the son of the American partner who is coming to see how things work there. She soon finds that he treats her like a piece of furniture, yet he gets along well with the other girls. Then he announces an experiment where he picks ugly clothes for her to wear at work. Eventually, he announces that she has won and the experiment has failed. He thought plain sober clothes would make her less disturbing, but she is wonderful in any wrapping.
