Valentine #1 July 1961
"Surrender" in Valentine #1 (July 1961) delivers a quietly charged tale set in the isolated town of Stanton, where one girl, Jill, finds herself at the center of attention when she’s pressured to run for Carnival Queen. With no other candidates and the town’s spotlight firmly on her, the arrival of the American factory girls—unexpected and long-missed—brings both relief and shifting dynamics. Jorge Longarón’s expressive artwork brings the story’s emotional weight to life, capturing the tension and quiet hope of a community reeling from its own oddities.
